How To Decorate Rocks and Make them Shiny

Sometimes it is the simple things in life that bring the most joy.  Finding and hiding rocks is the latest trend that is sweeping the country. The concept is simple.  People paint and hide rocks around town.  If you like a rock, you may keep it.  If you want to re-hide it, then you hide it again.  Anything goes!  In today's post, I'll share tips for decorating rocks so that they are nice and shiny.

1. Find rocks
Anything goes, but smooth rocks that are approximately 5" are a good choice.  You want them to be big enough to decorate with a fun design, but not so big that they are hard for a little one to pick up and carry.  We go on hikes and find our perfect rocks.  If you prefer though, Amazon sells everything, including River Rocks.

2. Paint
You want a paint that stands out. For instance, water colors won't work well.  We use this Acrylic Paint Set.  The acrylic paints are easy to work with and I really like the set from Amazon because they include multiple colors. It gets expensive to buy the full size paints separately, so I saved by going for a set.

3. Seal the paint to make it shiny
The biggest trick to making your rocks look really nice is to spray them with a shiny sealant.   We use an aerosol Sealant for Decorative Rocks because it is easy and I really like the end result. I do this step for my children in an open outdoor area because it smells.

4. Accessorize
Accessories are a great way to make your rocks pop!  Use a glue gun to add some Rhinestones or Wiggle Eyes.  The special touches will be appreciated and treasured by little rock hunters!

We love this rock hunting trend for children. It's so much fun to decorate rocks, hide them, and find new ones.  It's the ultimate treasure hunt!
